The 2011 Central EMS Employee of the Year
                                            Chance Cooper

The process of selecting an Employee of the Year gives us a chance to reflect back over the entire year and evaluate things that stand out as exceptional. Choosing one person out of a group of people that care FOR and ABOUT those we serve is not an easy task. Chance, like many others, comes to work with a positive attitude, almost always has a smile on his face and every partner he has enjoys working with him. Although he is accustom to helping those in need, following protocol to ensure appropriate help is available to those who ask for it, in his normal duties he is not actually putting his hands on patients to provide that help.  As a dispatcher, Chance rarely sees the people he helps. But one day while off duty and at home, his neighbor went into cardiac arrest.  Chance went to the neighbor’s house in nearly 2 foot of snow and did CPR until first responders and the ambulance arrived.  He and his brother were there providing CPR for at least 30-45 minutes before help arrived.
