Non-Emergency

The non emergency service added a second BLS transport unit from 10:00 am-6:00 pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.  This crew also splits the weekend and provides wheelchair coverage on Saturday and Sunday.

The four wheelchair vans are the busiest vehicles in the fleet.  Our wheelchair crew does from 25-35 calls each weekday and up to 10 calls on weekend days.  We purchased a Bariatric Wheelchair this year to increase the weight limit to adequately handle our larger patients safely. This chair is rated at 850 lbs.

Our non emergency transport division provides service for individuals that must be transported between medical facilities to receive care.  Some require immediate transports to trauma centers or  other specialized care centers for emergency medical care that is not provided locally, while others are in long term acute care or skilled nursing facilities that must be seen at the emergency department or hospital for treatments or tests.  The demand for this type of medical transportation has grown due to the specialization and decentralization of medical care in our communities.  Central EMS continues to provide transport for our service area as well as neighboring areas because of the increasing need to transport people to the most appropriate medical facility.

As an additional service to our customers Central EMS gives people rides from local nursing facilities to home for family gatherings and other special events.  Typically there is not a medical need for transport but this is a  much appreciated service.
