Medical Stand-By and Special Events
Central EMS provided 1537 hours of medical standby ambulances for community events in 2010. Community events include local high school football, community festivals such as the Clothes Line Fair and Apple Festival. Central EMS provided at least one ambulance and sometimes as many as five ambulances and 25 additional EMTs and paramedics for every SEC sanctioned sports event at the University of Arkansas. We also provided ambulances for everything from Ozark Junior Rodeo to the Hogeye Marathon, and the Joe Martin Bike races.
In addition to ambulance coverage, Central EMS has a Bike Team that rides during events attended by large crowds. The Bike Team members receive specialized training for highly technical bicycle operations in large crowds carrying medical equipment.
Central EMS works closely with the Washington County Department of Emergency Management to develop Emergency Operations Plans, provide Incident Command and other operations for planned events. We also support the Washington County Arkansas Medical Reserve Corps.
